Pallet
A wooden or metal base to which cargo is secured.
 
Paperwork
Documentation accompanying a shipment.
 
Perishable
A commodity possessing a quality or condition making it conducive to deterioration, spoilage, or death. Examples of this are seafood, flowers, fruits, vegetables and other perishable foodstuff.
 
Personal Effects
Shipments of used personal goods not for resale.
 
Phytosanitary Inspection Certificate
A certificate, issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to satisfy import regulations of foreign countries, indicating that a shipment has been inspected and is free of harmful pests and plant diseases.
 
Pick-Up Order
A document issued by the bonded agent (forwarder or broker) authorizing a third party to pick up freight on its behalf. Sometimes referred to as a Delivery Receipt by the bonded agent.
 
Pick-Up/Delivery Service - ACI
An optional service for the surface transport of shipments from the shipper's door to the originating cargo terminal and from the cargo terminal of destination to the consignee's door. Pick-up service at an additional charge is provided upon shipper's request. Delivery service at an additional charge is provided automatically unless the shipper requests otherwise on the Air Waybill. ""Regular"" pick-up/delivery service is provided during the business day. Special pick-up and delivery service is available any time of day with advance arrangements at a higher cost.
 
Pieces and Weight
A term used to identify the total size of a shipment.
 
Pivot Weight
The weight at which the lower rate applies next to the published rate in the tariff.
 
POD
Abbreviation for Proof of Delivery.
 
Port Code
A customs location code for a port (airport, shipping port or rail station). Each port has its own code.
 
Position
The area taken up by an L-3 (LD-3)/Type 8 container/unit load device on a wide-body aircraft.
 
Premium Rate
A percentage applied to the general commodity rate (GEN) for certain commodities. See Class Rate and Exception Rating.
 
Prepaid Charges
Charges to be paid by the shipper.
 
Pro
A term used by truckers, same as Bill of Lading.
 
Pro Forma Invoice
An invoice provided by a supplier prior to the shipment of merchandise, informing the buyer of the kinds and quantities of goods to be sent, their value, and important specifications. The commercial invoice is tendered to the carrier when goods are delivered for transportation.
 
Proof Of Delivery - (POD)
Information provided to payor containing name of person who signed for the package with the date and time of delivery.
 
Published Rates
Cargo rates for shipping by air from airport to airport (origin to destination) published in the cargo tariff.
